Self Help FAQ

Where the most popular self help questions hang out

Hi! I’m Barb D and I’ve been a dedicated student  of the Self Help and Personal Development fields for over 20 years.  I’ve built this site as a way to share my knowledge and life experiences with you and to offer you practical tips and advice for your questions about life, love, and spirituality.

I first became curious about the Self Help field when a guy I was seeing came complete with a case of Self Help books.  My first thought was, “Oh boy, I’m in trouble now!”  But by looking through the books, I could see he was  just trying  to solve his own stumbling blocks in life, such as shyness and low self-esteem.  They did seem to help him, so I began to gain respect for the authors and became more interested in researching the subjects.  They helped me observe and understand why some people behave the way they do.  Unfortunately, I forgot to look inward and observe myself.  That is…until 2006.

2006 was the year the “universe” decided to put me in  my place and force me to look at myself and how I was living (0r really, not living).  In a space of a few months, I lost a boyfriend I loved to another woman, I lost my nice apartment, I lost my ability to walk, and I lost a most beloved job (career, really).  I thought to myself:  “How could this all have happened to me? And so fast?  What am I going to do now?”  Well, through much introspection, journaling, researching, and praying, I came to realize I had been living my life through other people and on their terms, not my own.  I wasn’t being true to myself.  I let a “fear and scarcity” mindset make important decisions for me, even to the point of taking back the “wandering” boyfriend! And that is, for the most part, how I ended up that way in 2006.

And now? Well, by 2009, I had begun to listen to my inner voice (and to all the knowledge I had gained in my research), and I took action–to take control of my life:  Though I was disabled, I left the unfaithful boyfriend and found someone online who is just right for me and makes me very happy. (Yes, that’s right–I put myself out there and made no secret of my disability..a huge step for me in letting go of the fear.)   I also learned through books and online classes how to build a profitable online business through blogging, affiliate marketing, and self-publishing through Amazon’s Kindle program.  This site is one of three I am working on.  I am passionate about and love this work and couldn’t be happier!  And the *income I get from these sites will help me become more independent and re-invest into my businesses.  As for my walking disability–I still can’t walk without a walker, though I am a bit stronger than I was since getting surgery in 2007, but you know what?  My life is just as fulfilling now as it was before my disability happened, so it really doesn’t matter, does it?

If you are not happy with your life and how you’re living (or not living) it, I strongly urge you to take control of your life any way you can.  It all starts with getting the knowledge you need and then applying what you learn.  I hope this site helps you in your journey.
